If the average price of a holding is displaying as $0.00 in your portfolio, this is expected in certain circumstances. Most commonly, this occurs when shares have been transferred into your account from another broker or share registry, or when a corporate action has resulted in a change to the ticker code or structure of the holding.
Why does the average price show as $0.00?
When shares are added to your account by an external party, such as through a broker transfer or share registry, the original purchase price information is not provided to Selfwealth. To avoid displaying potentially inaccurate cost base information, Selfwealth sets the average price to $0.00 for holdings received in this way.
While the average price remains at $0.00, profit and loss calculations will not be available for that holding.
If additional units are added to an existing holding by an external party, the current average price will remain unchanged.
How do I update the average price, and what should I set it to?
You can manually update the average price of your holding at any time by following the steps outlined in our Average Price help article.
To determine the correct average price to enter, please refer to your own records of the original purchase price. If the holding has been affected by a corporate action, such as a stock split, you should also refer to the relevant announcement released by the issuer through the ASX. Once an average price has been entered, Selfwealth will automatically recalculate and update the average price as you make additional purchases of that security. This will continue until you sell some or all of the holding.
