When you add international trading to your Selfwealth portfolio, a corresponding cash account is created for the primary currency of that market. For example, opening a Hong Kong trading account will also create a Hong Kong Dollar (HKD) cash account. Funds in this account are used to pay for shares you buy on that market, and proceeds from any sell orders will settle there too.

You can transfer funds freely between any of your cash accounts — for example, AUD to USD, AUD to HKD, or USD to HKD (and vice versa).
Please note: If you deposited AUD via Osko (instant deposit), you'll need to wait an additional business day before transferring those funds to an international cash account. Click here for more information on international transfers and Osko.
How do I transfer funds between my international cash accounts?
Web app
- Go to the Wallet tab in the left-hand panel
- Click Convert
- Select the currencies you want to convert from and to using the currency icons
- Enter the amount you'd like to convert and click Continue
- Review the conversion details, then slide Slide to Continue to proceed, or click Cancel to exit
- Click Done to finish
Mobile app
- Go to the Wallet tab in the main menu
- Tap Convert
- Tap the currency icons to select the currencies you want to convert from and to
- Enter the amount you'd like to convert and tap Continue
- Review the conversion details, then tap Confirm to proceed or Previous to go back and make changes
What happens after I submit a transfer?
Once submitted, you'll receive a confirmation email at your registered address containing:
- Source and destination currencies
- Transfer amount
- Estimated exchange rate
- Estimated clearing time
Please note: Transfers cannot be cancelled or amended once submitted. Depending on the currency pair and time of submission, transfers can take between 1 and 4 business days to clear. Click here for more information on how to calculate your transfer time.
If you set up US trading on an individual portfolio on or after 13th of August 2026, and it was the first US trading on your Selfwealth account, some of the information in this article works differently for you.
Currency conversions on your account are processed instantly at a guaranteed exchange rate. To convert funds, currently only supported on the mobile app, go to Wallet and then Convert. Only conversions between US and AU cash accounts are supported.
