How do I open a Selfwealth trading account?

Complete the following steps to apply for a Selfwealth trading account.

  1. Follow the 'Join now' button on the Selfwealth website
  2. Register your details by entering your email address, password and acknowledging that you have read and accepted the Selfwealth Terms and Conditions (T&Cs).
  3. You will receive a verification email in which you will be prompted to copy a 6 digit passcode. 
  4. Once that's been entered, you'll then be taken to the application page.

IMPORTANT: Please ensure you select the correct account type before proceeding, as it cannot be changed later.

What are the different types of Selfwealth accounts I can open?

Account Type Description
Individual If you are investing by yourself, in your own name
Joint If you are investing with another individual.  You can have up to 3 individuals over the age of 18 on a joint account
Kids (Minor) If you wish to create an account in your name with a minor as the beneficiary
Company If you are investing in the name of a Company
SMSF A trading account for your Self Managed Super Fund.  Your SMSF may have individual trustees or a corporate trustee
Trust  A trading account for a family or discretionary trust, or other trust structure. Your SMSF may have individual trustees or a corporate trustee

What information will I need before starting a Selfwealth application?

Prior to starting the application, it will be helpful to have the following information on hand:

  • Your personal and/or entity details, as well as the details of anyone else that will be on the application
  • If you want to transfer all of your shares from another broker, please have your HIN from that broker ready. You'll be able to find your HIN on a CHESS Holding statement.
  • Your bank account details, which will be used to transfer funds out of your Selfwealth Account.  They must be in the same name as your trading account.
  • Your TFN (Please note providing your TFN is optional)

Account Type Information required
Individual
  • Personal and contact details for the applicant. To verify your identify you'll need an Australian driver's licence or passport.  For additional verification, a Medicare card may be required.
  • Your TFN
  • Your bank details.  These must be in the same name as your trading account and are used to transfer funds out of your Selfwealth account. 
Joint
  • Personal and contact details for each applicant. For each applicant to verify their identify they'll need an Australian driver's licence or passport.  For additional verification, a Medicare card may be required.
  • Your TFN
  • Your bank details.  These must be in the same name as your trading account and are used to transfer funds out of your Selfwealth account. 
Kids (Minor)
  • Personal and contact details for the applicant. To verify your identify they'll need an Australian driver's licence or passport.  For additional verification, a Medicare card may be required.
  • Your TFN, or the minor's TFN
  • Your bank details.  These must be in the same name as your trading account and are used to transfer funds out of your Selfwealth account. 
Company
  • Personal and contact details for the Directors.  For each applicant to verify their identity they will need an Australian Driver's licence or passport. For additional verification, a Medicare card may be required.
  • Australian Company Number (ACN)
  • TFN for the company
  • Bank account details in the name of the company
SMSF
  • Personal and contact details for the Directors/Trustees.  For each applicant to verify their identity they will need an Australian Driver's licence or passport. For additional verification, a Medicare card may be required.
  • Australian Company Number (ACN) Only applicable if the trustee is a company.
  • Super fund ABN 
  • TFN for the super fund
  • Bank details in the name of the super fund
  • Schedule page for your deed
Trust 
  • Personal and contact details for the Directors/Trustees.  For each applicant to verify their identity they will need an Australian Driver's licence or passport. For additional verification, a Medicare card may be required.
  • Australian Company Number (ACN) Only applicable if the trustee is a company.
  • TFN for the trust 
  • Bank details in the name of the trust.
