How do I transfer my US shares to Selfwealth (non-DRS)?
You can transfer US shares into Selfwealth by completing the US Stock Transfer Request form and emailing it to us with your ID and a recent statement from your current broker.
This applies to customers whose US holdings are held with Alpaca Securities LLC, which covers accounts opened on or after 14 August 2026. If your US account was opened before then, transfers in are not available while we complete the move to our new custodian. Contact us if you are not sure which applies to you.
Transfers into Selfwealth from other custodians are currently unavailable for customers still held with PhillipCapital.
Are there any fees?
Selfwealth does not charge a fee to transfer US shares in. Your current broker may charge to send them, and some brokers apply conditions such as a minimum transfer size or a fee per holding. We recommend checking with them before you submit a request.
What you will need
- The completed US Stock Transfer Request form
- A copy of your photo ID, either a driver licence or passport
- Your most recent account statement from the broker you are transferring from
What to check before you start
Your holdings must be held under the same beneficial owner as your Selfwealth portfolio. Transferring from a joint account to an individual account changes the beneficial owner and is not permitted.
Your shares must be held electronically. Certificated holdings cannot be transferred.
The registration and tax details on the account you are transferring from must match your Selfwealth US trading account.
Completing the form
Section 1, your Selfwealth account details. Your Selfwealth trading account name, your Selfwealth account number beginning with S, your US trading account number, and the tax identifier matching your account type. Use your TFN for individual and joint accounts, or your ABN or ACN for company, trust and SMSF accounts.
Section 2, transferring broker. The name and address of the broker holding your shares now, their clearing number if you know it, and your account name and number with them exactly as registered.
Section 3, transfer type. Choose full transfer, partial ACAT or non-ACAT. If you do not indicate otherwise, the transfer is processed in full.
Section 4, holdings to transfer. Required for a partial transfer. List each holding on its own line with the quantity, symbol, CUSIP and asset description. There is room for 18 holdings, with a continuation page for up to 40.
You will also see a choice between delivery in kind and liquidate. Delivery in kind moves your shares across as they are. Liquidate means your shares are sold at the other broker and the cash is transferred instead, which is a disposal and may have tax consequences. If you want to keep your holdings intact, choose delivery in kind.
Section 5, authorisation. All account holders must sign. Digital signatures are accepted, so you can type or apply an electronic signature, or print and sign by hand. For company accounts, sign in accordance with the company's constitution.
Submitting the form
Email the signed form, your ID and your broker statement to support@selfwealth.com.au.
For a full account transfer, your other broker will freeze the account and cancel any open orders once they receive the instruction.
Please allow 10-14 business days for your holdings to appear in your Selfwealth account. Completing the form does not guarantee the delivering broker will accept the request.
Transferring shares registered with a US transfer agent (DRS)
If your shares are registered directly in your own name with a US transfer agent rather than held at a broker, use the DRS Transfer Request form instead of the US Stock Transfer Request.
Direct Registration System holdings sit on the company's register through its transfer agent, such as Computershare or Equiniti, rather than being held in a brokerage account. If you receive statements from a transfer agent rather than a broker, this is the form you need.
Fees
A DRS processing fee of US$100 applies to each transfer request.
A resubmission fee of US$150 applies to each rejection caused by a registration mismatch, an SSN or TIN mismatch, or insufficient shares.
Both are charged in US dollars to your Selfwealth US trading account. Fees are not refundable once a request has been submitted to the transfer agent, including where the transfer agent rejects it, so it is worth checking your details carefully before you send the form.
What you will need
- The completed DRS Transfer Request form
- A recent statement from the transfer agent
- A copy of your photo ID, either a driver licence or passport
Before you start
The name, address and tax identification details held at the transfer agent must match your Selfwealth US trading account. A mismatch is the most common cause of rejection, and each rejection carries the US$150 resubmission fee.
Only whole shares can be transferred. Fractional entitlements cannot move through DRS and will stay with the transfer agent.
One form covers one security. If you hold several securities with a transfer agent, submit a separate form for each, and note that the US$100 fee applies to each request.
Completing the form
Section 1, receiving account. Your full name as registered, your Selfwealth account number beginning with S, your US trading account number, your address and daytime phone number. The clearing firm and DTC number are already filled in as Alpaca Securities LLC and 3021.
Section 2, delivering transfer agent. The transfer agent's name and DTC number, your account number for that stock with them, and the SSN or tax ID they hold on file for you.
Section 3, stock to be transferred. The security name, symbol or CUSIP, and the number of whole shares.
Section 4, authorisation. Sign and date. Digital signatures are accepted. Signing also acknowledges the fees above.
Submitting the form
Email the signed form, your transfer agent statement and your ID to support@selfwealth.com.au.
DRS transfers are subject to the transfer agent's own processing times and requirements, and completing the form does not guarantee they will accept it.
